Tom & Jennifer’s Wedding at Blackstock Estate

Recently, we had the privilege of being contacted by Tom asking if we could write a blog about his wedding that took place in the summer of 2018. We, of course, were happily willing to oblige and share with everyone just how beautiful their day was…

From start to finish…

Tom & Jennifer’s day spent at Blackstock was a happy and intimate one. They opted for a medium-sized wedding. This meant that everyone they wished to be present were, without letting things get too crowded. They opted to share their special day with us on a Sunday, which worked wonderfully for them and their guests.

Jennifer decided to take full advantage of the on site Bridal Cottage to prepare with her hair and makeup artists. Tom arrived slightly later, around midday.

The close friends and family of the couple arrived around 12:30 with the bar waiting to greet them. Whilst the guests mingled amongst themselves, the live guitarist, Ryan Walvin, entertained them all.

The Main Event!

Tom sported a sophisticated navy suit, with light blue accents. He described his wife as looking perfect as she was walked down the aisle by her father, Derek. Her dress was fit for a princess, according to her loving new husband. Despite this, they’d both agree their son and ring bearer Reginald, who looked particularly suave, really stole the show!

The ceremony took place in a wing of our wonderful Tudor Barn. With beautiful ivy and fairy lights wrapped around the rustic support beams of the barn, it was a truly magical sight to behold. Not to mention the blue detailing lights that really helped set the mood.

Photography

In typical fashion of the Great British Summer, it rained. However, everyone was still in good spirits as they were invited to partake in some photographs and enjoy some more drinks from the bar. In the meantime, the newly-weds spent some quality time alone and had some photographs taken. Finally getting a chance to slip away from the crowd and have some alone time with your new partner is a wonderfully intimate moment, plus some fabulous photos and memories are created.

Our thanks to Simon Booth for capturing all the breathtaking shots we include in this blog.

Once the Bride and Groom finished their shoot, everyone ventured into the Granary and were seated in preparation for their meal.

The Menu

Everyone was seated for the wedding breakfast, and Blackstock Estate announced Mr & Mrs Betts into the room for the first time. The couple were met with a wave of applause and cheers.

The couple thought it was important for all the speeches to take place before the meal began. The father of the bride, Derek, gave one of the most heartfelt speeches performed at Blackstock. It was most definitely a proud moment for him. This speech was followed by some words spoken by the Groom and then by his best man. Both speeches contained amazing anecdotes which gave the event a really personal touch.

The happy couple did an excellent job of deciding on a menu that looked and tasted great; it was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Confit of duck, corn-fed chicken and pistachio terrine, granny smith apple purée, soused seasonal vegetables and toasted brioche

Double baked Sussex charmer cheese souffle, apple, chicory and watercress salad with Cumberland sauce

Herb-crusted lamb rack, citrus fennel with green beans, feta thyme mash and tomato jus

Spaghetti Bolognaise

Spinach pappardelle with wild mushrooms, chestnuts and broad beans

Maltesers mousse in chocolate case, salted caramel nibs and honeycomb ice cream

Time to Celebrate!

Once everyone had finished their delicious meals, the Tudor Barn was once again filled for an evening of celebration!

Tom and Jennifer cut their wedding cake, which was followed romantically by their first dance as a married couple. It was a really intimate moment for the couple and one that will remain in the memories of everyone present. As the evening rolled on and the disco started, the Bride & Grooms’s nearest and dearest hit the dance floor to show off their moves. Despite the rain still lashing down, the mood was still that of happiness and love. We couldn’t have asked for a more amazing group!

Tom & Jennifer were both an absolute joy to work with. A really kind couple with great hearts. The whole team at Blackstock send them our very best wishes for their happily ever after.

Kind words from Tom

“Blackstock went above and beyond to allow the day to run smoothly and always asked us if we needed anything and kept us updated throughout.

My wife and I had the day to remember and thank Blackstock for their beautiful venue and organisation, as well as our guests who made our day a day to remember. “
