Danielle and Ben’s October Country Wedding

Danielle and Ben held their October country wedding at Blackstock Country Estate in East Sussex on Thursday 2 October 2025. The day brought together 43 adult day guests and 6 children, with a further 25 guests joining for the evening reception. From the morning preparations through to the last dance, the day made full use of the estate’s two barns, the Tudor Barn for the ceremony and evening, and The Granary for the wedding breakfast, as well as the outdoor grounds for photographs.

Getting Ready at Blackstock Country Estate

The bride arrived at 8am and used the Bridal Suite for the morning. At 9:30am, six members of the bridal party were served breakfast there, croissants, pain au chocolat and Danish pastries. Make-up and hair were handled by Rachel York and Emily Baker.

The groom got ready at home and arrived at midday. The Bridal Suite was cleared before the evening reception, in line with the venue’s requirements.

The Ceremony in the Tudor Barn

The pianist from MTA Events arrived at 12:30pm to set up for both the ceremony and the drinks reception. Day guests arrived from 1pm with the bar open until 1:45pm, and background music playing through a Spotify playlist in the meantime.

The ceremony began at 2pm in the Tudor Barn, with seating arranged as five chairs either side of the aisle and live piano throughout. Two specific requests shaped how the ceremony unfolded: all guests were asked to remain seated while the children made their entrance, so as not to overwhelm them. After the bridesmaids had walked down the aisle, the curtain was closed ahead of the bride’s entrance. These thoughtful touches are typical of how an October country wedding at Blackstock Country Estate is planned around what the couple actually want.

Drinks Reception and Canapés

The drinks reception ran from 2:30pm with the bar open and the pianist continuing to play. Children had access to the Playbarn from 2:30pm, supervised by adults.
Canapés were served from 2:45pm: baby Cumberland sausages with honey, sesame seeds and real tomato ketchup, alongside halloumi, red pepper and mushroom kebab with a mild harissa dip, 43 of each for the day guests. Portions were set aside for Danielle and Ben to have around their photos. The Blackstock Buggy was on hand for outdoor photographs, weather permitting.

The Wedding Breakfast in the Granary

Guests moved to The Granary at 4pm for the wedding breakfast. The couple were announced and entered to Chris Brown’s Forever, with tables arranged as six rounds and a top table along the back wall. Two speeches were given before the meal: Malcolm, the father of the bride, followed by Ben, the groom.

The main course offered a choice between rosemary and lemon chargrilled chicken on roasted Mediterranean vegetables and new potatoes with a vine tomato and red pepper sauce (served to 29 guests, plus one supplier meal), and a feta filo tart with red onion marmalade, wilted rocket and a white wine and tomato sauce (served to 11 guests). One guest had a tomato allergy and received the chicken dish without the sauce. House white and red wine were served at half a bottle per person, with bread and butter on the tables.

The toast at 5:20pm used 41 glasses of prosecco. Two further speeches followed between the main course and dessert: Chloe, the maid of honour, and Ben and Ryan as best men. Dessert was warm sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream, served at 6pm. Tea, coffee and mints followed at 6:30pm, served in the Tudor Courtyard or Tudor Barn depending on the weather.

The Evening Reception

The DJ from Elite Discos set up during the wedding breakfast, ready for 25 evening guests arriving at 7pm in the Tudor Barn. At the same time, the grounds were locked and the Playbarn closed.

At 7:15pm, Danielle and Ben cut their wedding cake, displayed on a Blackstock log cake stand, positioned next to the gift table on the right-hand side as guests entered the Tudor Barn, before their first dance. The photo booth from Picture Blast was set up on the mezzanine with a guest book table alongside it.
The evening buffet was served at 8:30pm: 64 portions of chargrilled chicken pitta pockets with minted iceberg lettuce, aioli and tzatziki, with adjustments for the tomato allergy and two vegetarian guests. The bar closed and music stopped at 11pm, with all non-resident guests asked to leave by 11:30pm.

Overnight Accommodation

Blackstock Country Estate has on-site accommodation, which meant Danielle and Ben and their guests could stay the night without needing to arrange transport at the end of the evening. The couple themselves stayed in the Goat Shed, a double room on the estate. Check-in for all resident guests was from 2pm on the day, so those staying over could drop their bags before the ceremony. The following morning, breakfast was served at 10:15am for all resident guests, with check-out by 10am.

Suppliers on the Day

Danielle and Ben worked with a number of suppliers across the day, all coordinated through Blackstock Country Estate. Joanna handled the venue decoration, while photography was covered by John Scofield. Make-up and hair were taken care of by Rachel York and Emily Baker, both working from the Bridal Suite during the morning. No florist was used.

The wedding cake was supplied by M&S, arriving on the day and cut as needed at 7:15pm before the first dance. Danielle and Ben took the remainder home with them. Live piano throughout the ceremony and drinks reception was provided by MTA Events. Evening entertainment was handled by Elite Discos, whose DJ set up during the wedding breakfast and played through until 11pm. Picture Blast provided the photo booth, which was set up on the mezzanine with a guest book table alongside it.

Planning an October Country Wedding at Blackstock Estate

An October country wedding at Blackstock Country Estate works well for couples who want a single site that covers everything, ceremony, dining, dancing and accommodation, without splitting the day across different locations. The Tudor Barn and The Granary each serve a distinct purpose, while the 70 acres of estate grounds give plenty of room for photography and fresh air between the different parts of the day.

Danielle and Ben’s October country wedding is a good example of how a full-day wedding at Blackstock Estate runs from early morning through to midnight, with the venue’s in-house catering team handling everything from the bridal party breakfast to the evening buffet.
